A familiar non-Profit organization & popular local small business deserve community attention again. Danlar Towing recently partnered with Heroes Walk Among Us to provide housing for one of America’s “Heroes”.
Rio Rancho, New Mexico October 2, 2013 – Thanks to the perseverance of Shane D’Onofrio (Founder, Heroes Walk Among Us) and the earnest efforts of Danlar (Collision, Towing, Recovery), another veteran family in New Mexico is provided with adequate housing. On Wednesday, October 2, 2013, Danlar Towing of Albuquerque, NM generously accepted D’Onofrio’s request for services to transport, by means of towing, a 34’ Itasca motorhome from Rio Rancho to Raton, New Mexico.
Shane D’Onofrio (HWAU founder) continues to advance his mission of providing temporary housing and a plethora of other services to assist veterans. Upon discovering an Army 4th Infantry Vietnam veteran & wife were living in a leaky, less than safe 6’x8’ pull trailer, D’Onofrio relentlessly sought a means to transport the “34’ Itasca house on wheels” to the Raton couple. After contacting about a dozen towing facilities in the Albuquerque area, none of which were interested in helping, Mr. D’Onofrio called Chris Chavez at Danlar Towing. Mr. Chavez, general manager of Towing- Danlar, was, without hesitation eager to accept the giant task.
Rex Thurman, a two-year Danlar employee, explained, “knowing I was a veteran, Chris came to me to see if I would be interested in doing the job”. “I immediately accepted,” expressed Thurman, a 21-year Army infantry veteran. The approximate 450 mile roundtrip task encompassed the entire day and coincidently, the 34’ motorhome was delivered to an Army Infantry veteran by another. Yet another noble deed rewardingly accomplished by D’Onofrio’s efforts.
Mr. Shane D’Onofrio is known as the “Go To Guy” for veterans in Rio Rancho. Shane functions as the CEO overseeing the daily management & operations of Heroes Walk Among Us (HWAU), (a 501 (c) 3 non-profit organization). Additionally, D’Onofrio personally contacts community businesses to discuss how both can work together to improve the lives of veterans in need; labors to seek funding for the organization; service providers for the veterans; and obtains food, clothing & hygiene products to hand out to veterans on the street. “We have seen so many lives changed for the better”, expresses D’Onofrio.
Heroes Walk Among Us (HWAU) presently has various successful programs in place; the New Mexico Veteran Resource Center (NMVRC), “Made by a Vet” and “Wheels4vets” (just to name a few). A generous donation to “Wheels4vets” enabled HWAU to provide a home to a veteran in need. The goal of HWAU is to provide services through a continuum of care to all veterans in need in New Mexico and make a difference in the lives of veterans who so selflessly served this country and gave so much.
